As you prepare for your senior portrait session, think about what elements of your life you wan to include. Do you want to feature a hobby or special sport? Is there a certain vibe you want to give off? Casual? Formal? Hipster? Athlete? The most important thing is to show who you are, by doing this you will be relaxed throughout the session.
Do I need a consultation?
A consultation is a great way for us to talk about your session and get to know each other. We have found that our seniors are very busy and we are happy to have a phone, Facetime or Facebook video appointment should you not be available for an in-person meeting. We will discuss options for locations, clothing, hair and the details of our shoot.
What will my senior photo shoot be like?
Amazing! On the day of the shoot we will meet at the location we discussed during our consultation; please be prepared wearing your first outfit. We have a relaxed style of shooting and we like to easy any nerves you may have so you are comfortable and looking your best.
What should I bring for my senior photos?
We love when you come with lots of choices: outfits, accessories, and props (sports, music, vehicles, books, etc.) We are all about you and we want your photos to shine to tell us who you are. Typically 3-4 wardrobe changes are recommended; so bring 5-6 for us to help you choose.
Do you have clothing recommendations?
Express yourself and be you.
We do have recommendations as some clothing types photograph better than others. Typically solid colors photograph better than patterns and they don’t go out of style but today’s fashion pattern might be out of style next year. Now that we’ve said that feel free to wear patterns but make it gorgeous.
We recommend staying in color harmony. Earth tones, basic colors, light and soft, etc. and be cautious of matching completely. Thin sheer clothing can become sheer with off camera flash so please avoid this material.
- Baggy clothing doesn’t photograph well
- Layers look great in photos
- Remember shoes with each outfit
- Jeans are classic
- Skirts over shorts
- Formal attire will photograph beautifully
- Jewelry for each outfit
- Remember a lint brush
- Makeup touch up kit and some extra bobby pins
While we don’t offer professional hair and makeup as part of your senior photo session we are happy to refer you to some of Spokane’s best makeup artists and hair stylist. These industry professionals understand how to make you look your best for your photos.
If you decide you would like to do your own makeup please make your makeup a little more dramatic since our lighting may wash out fine details in your face.
Making a day of your session having your hair blown out is fun and will help you feel even more like a model for the day!
Tell me about your posing?
We know you will likely be a bit nervous but we will work to ease your nerves with our posing. We like to be fun, light hearted, trendy and photo journalistic.
What we aren’t about is making you look much older than you are by your outfit choices and posing. You are only 17 and 18 years old once and we want you to feel confident and look great while being current.
Do you retouch my photos?
All of your photos will be retouched for color consistency and minor blemish removal.
When do I get to see my photos?
Your online gallery will be available for you to view your photos approximately 2-3 weeks after your session. You are welcome to share your gallery with friends and family to check out all of your great photos and buy any prints of you they may like.
May I bring a friend to my session?
Yes! Friends can often make you laugh like no one else and if they decide they would like to have their senior photos done also we have special deals for you both.
Should I bring dad or mom to my session?
Mom and dad are encouraged to be part of your consultation. During your senior photo session your parents are welcome to come but aren’t required. Over the years we have learned many seniors are more relaxed and feel like they can cut loose a bit more with out mom or dad watching. We feel strongly that if mom or dad doesn’t come for your session you should bring a friend or an awesome sibling.
So I will receive all of my photos on a DVD or I can download them?
Yes, we know that our seniors will be in love with all of their photos and we typically deliver 40-80 photos from a senior session. We don’t want to make you suffer choosing which few photos you get to keep. Yes, we include the print release too!
Do you have a minimum print order like other studios?
We do not have a minimum purchase requirement. We do offer professional quality print products: gorgeous canvas with a UV coating wrapped around a complete wood backed frame is available in addition to vibrant metal prints and beautiful professional prints.
Your price is all-inclusive, what does that mean?
Most studios charge a “sitting fee” and then nickel and dime you for every digital file. We don’t charge a sitting fee but instead keep things simple for you by offering one great price for your Spokane area senior photo session. The price includes the time and talent of the photographer AND your DVD will all the digital files.
What are my yearbook requirements?
We honestly don’t know, each school has their own requirements for due date and picture size. Some schools even have restrictions on what you can/can’t wear. Please check with your school for the details so we can have those details on hand when we schedule your session to meet your school’s deadline.
Can I Instagram or Snapchat from our shoot?
We are ok with you taking mobile pictures and sharing your excitement during our shoot! This is a fun part of your life and we want you to remember how great it was!
Do you have a college degree or take classes?
Erik has a Bachelor of Arts in Photography from Barry University in Miami, Florida. Alicia’s degree is in Early Childhood Education, which has helped her become fantastic at communicating with our younger subjects.
Do we need an album or prints, I have a tablet to see the pictures?
Digital photos are great to share online and view on your phone or tablet but a printed album will be shared for generations. Also there just seems to be some magic in opening a large album. We have researched albums for years and have held hundreds of albums to find our favorites. We offer custom albums made in the USA and premium albums made in Italy.
The entire family will enjoy large wall art for years and a quality art piece from us will retain the same elegance and beauty without the loss of quality an inferior product may have.
Can I buy prints from you?
Of course you can purchase your prints from us. We only deliver archival quality prints and perfect color; your local photo printer doesn’t match our lab’s quality level because our photo color profiles are set to our lab’s calibration. Which means your prints from a different lab may not look exactly how you see the photos on your computer screen. Color accuracy is important since the photos you print will be hung on walls and sit on desks to share for years to come. We want you to enjoy your photos every moment and reflect back on the day you said, “I do”.
We offer a wide variety of printed products; these products include beautiful canvas gallery wraps, vibrant metal prints and elegant woodprints. We also offer small custom designed albums that are perfect to show off your favorite photos from your e-session. Our albums are custom designed by Erik and if properly cared for will look fantastic for 100 years. We want your children, grandchildren and great children to see who you were and professionally printed products is the best way to pass down those moments.
Photos that are delivered black and white cannot be changed to color unless we have included both. Please let us know prior to the wedding if you have an affinity for black and white photographs and would like to see more included or just a select few.
Do we need a permit to photograph anywhere?
Some locations do require a permit to photograph. Please contact the location directly and if you need help give us a call; we will try to help you determine if a permit is necessary. Any fees associated with the permit are not the responsibility of the photographer. Arriving without a permit means we may be asked to leave the location.
When is the payment due for my portrait session due?
The full payment of your portrait sessions is due the day of the session. We like to keep the finances simple. We know it can be a lot of work to gather the family, bundle the newborn or motivate the high school senior that it “won’t be that bad”. Let’s keep the money thing simple.
Can I have the RAW photos?
Short answer, no. A RAW image hasn’t been color corrected or reviewed for quality. We want you to look your best and we insist on only delivering the best representation of our talent. RAW images are also not always viewable or printable. The images must be processed with color profiles, sized for appropriate resolution for printing and formatted into a printable format (we format in JPG.) Lastly, photography is an art and the color edit we apply to our photos is part of our creative vision.
Who owns the copyright? Can I buy the copyright?
Erik & Alicia Elsasser own the copyright and it’s held under Erik and Alicia Photography, LLC. No you cannot buy the copyright but you do receive a print release that allows you to make print products and share your photos on social media. Commercial use is prohibited without express written permission and fair and appropriate compensation. We retain the copyright for the images and the right to use them for promotion and competition.
Who will actually be my photographer?
Alicia and I will photograph all of our photo shoots. While we do photograph all of our weddings together only one of us will photograph your portrait session. If you have a preference for one of us please feel free to ask and we will work to accommodate you.
What is your style?
Our style is a combination of photojournalism, which captures the natural moments of your shoot as the events unfold and stylized portraits. During your portrait sessions I like to be more documentary when photographing newborns and families. Alicia tends to photograph newborns in the popular artistic style of today. During senior sessions we both have a similar style that will show you looking fresh.
What is a boutique portrait studio?
As a boutique portrait studio we limit the number of clients we work with through the year to 50 portrait sessions and 12 weddings. We want to give each of our clients a wonderful experience and phenomenal customer service.
Do you shoot digital or film? Why is a professional camera important?
We are Canon photographers and shoot with Canon professional digital SLR cameras, premium lenses, on and off camera flash and natural light. Professional cameras are meant to handle the workload of professional use and our cameras have two memory card slots. The Canon 5D Mark III camera saves two copies of your photos as we photograph your day; it’s a once in a lifetime event and we don’t want to lose a moment.
What's included in your packages?
All of our portrait packages include Erik or Alicia as your photographer and a DVD or digital download of retouched photos and a print release plus an online gallery to share your photos with family and friends.
Do you edit the photos?
Yes we edit all of our photos to ensure beautiful even color and skin tone. We think black and white photos are beautiful but if you aren’t a fan of B&W photography please let us know, also let us know if you love B&W photography and we will include a few more.

The full payment of your photo sessions is due the day of the session. We like to keep the finances simple. We know it can be a lot of work to gather the family, bundle the newborn or motivate the high school senior that it “won’t be that bad”. Let’s keep the money thing simple.

How many photos can I expect to receive from my portrait session?
High school senior sessions are approximately 1.5 hours long and receive approximately 30-60 photos to choose from.
Can I request certain photos to be taken during my session?
Our goal is to work with you to not just meet your expectations but to exceed them. We have more flexibility during a portrait session to take on photo requests. However we can’t guarantee to copy of your favorite Pinterest board pins; we will try to get a better understanding what you hope for and create an amazing series of photos based on your dreams.
How do you dress when photographing a Spokane senior portrait session?
During portrait sessions we both dress casually in jeans or pants and a nice shirt.
